We Are Schnitz
Our Story
Our founder Roman has been crafting schnitzels since 1974. As a boy, Roman was taught the traditional way of cooking schnitzels by his mother in their Polish kitchen. Nothing was more important in Roman’s household than time spent with his family sharing delicious, home cooked food.
When Roman grew up he moved to Australia, armed with his mother’s love of cooking and a special family recipe. Roman opened several restaurants, each featuring his signature pan cooked schnitzel on the menu. In 2007 the family decided to make the schnitzel the centrepiece of the menu and started a small city café in Melbourne called Schnitz.
Since then, Schnitz has grown to become a nationwide franchise. Today the Schnitz team continue to craft every schnitzel like Roman did back in his mother’s Polish kitchen – crumbed and pan cooked to a delicious, crispy golden brown finish. Whoever you are and wherever you’re from, you’ll be warmly embraced and welcomed to the table for a hearty, home-cooked meal at Schnitz.
1965
Whilst growing up in Poland, Roman is taught the traditional way of cooking schnitzels whilst watching his mum cook for the family; using fresh ingredients, crumbed and pan cooked to a delicious golden brown.
1974
Paying homage to his mum’s love of cooking for her family, Roman arrives in Australia and embarks on his dream to bring families together over a home cooked meal. He starts several restaurants, with schnitzel becoming the signature dish in every restaurant.
2007
Over time, Australians become obsessed with Roman’s schnitzel and traditional cooking method, leading Roman and his sons to launch a dedicated restaurant for schnitzels – Schnitz.
Today
Over the past 10 years, Schnitz has experienced consistent growth, with a national footprint and strong franchise model. Today, we continue to craft every schnitzel like Roman did back in his mother’s Polish kitchen – hand crumbed and pan cooked.
